Writing a guide
What you need
List out any documents or information required to complete the step. Also list any timing requirement coming from the previous step (e.g. You must have waited 30 days after serving documents to your spouse").
Quick links
Use the quick links section sparingly. If left blank, the section will not appear on the page (and the main content will resize to fill the space).
The quick links should not be used as navigation or to highlight content that should be findable on the page. Instead, use this section to link to related outside resources or to pages in another section that might follow from the information on this page.
Expandable sections - sub-steps
Some steps will be broken into smaller pieces for ease of understanding. These should be alluded to in the parent step title (e.g. “Fill out forms” implies there may be multiple forms). Ideally, there should not be more than 4-5 sub-steps.
Unique to the guides, there is a new expandable section for sub-steps with a more prominent box style. These are used only for sub-steps that the user must follow as part of the main step-by-step.
Expandable sections
The usual expandable sections are available in the Guides content. They should be used for content that covers edge cases or that would only apply to certain people. Most of the titles should start with something like “If you are…” or a question.
Introduction page
Introductions pages for all of the the guides should follow the same format:
- What is this guide for?
- Is this guide for you?
- Consider using the Stories illustration style to give this a personal touch, but ensure the listed items are able to be presented as text (for better responsive behaviour).
- Timeline
- Where applicable, a graphical timeline should be provided for the process of the divorce. This should correspond with the steps outlined in the guide. Estimated times can be provided for known court processes to set users expectations.
Use the source code editor to make the timeline image clickable for each step of the process.
