Privacy Policy
What information do we collect?
When you use JES legal help services, book a court visit or sign up for a JES newsletter, we may collect your name, email address, and/or phone number. If you ask a question through LegalHelpBC “Ask a Human”, we also collect the details of your legal inquiry.
Why do we collect it?
We collect your information only to respond to your inquiry or send you the newsletter you requested. We do not use your information for marketing or share it with unrelated programs.
Who sees your information?
Personal information provided through JES websites is accessed only by the JES employees, contractors and volunteers who need it to operate and deliver JES services.
- JES does NOT sell personal information it collects.
- JES does NOT share personal information collected through its websites with any unrelated JES programs or projects.
To deliver our services, JES uses third-party technology platforms, including:
- Zendesk (client service inquiry management): Inquiries submitted through LegalHelpBC are stored and managed using Zendesk, a service operated by Zendesk Inc. in the United States. Zendesk processes your information solely to enable JES to receive and respond to your inquiry.
- Anthropic Claude (AI-assistance): The LegalHelpBC AI Chatbot uses Claude, an AI tool operated by Anthropic PBC in the United States. Claude is large language model that utilizes a knowledge base of JES-approved, legally reviewed source information to respond to public inquiries; it does not make decisions about individuals. Additionally, to help staff manage inquiry volumes and improve service quality, inquiry content may be processed by Claude for internal summarization and analysis only. Under the terms of our service agreement, Anthropic does not use JES data to train its AI models.
- Google Analytics (website statistics): This software tracks a range of data related to the use of JES websites. All the data is anonymous, with no personal identifying information collected or stored. Google Analytics is a service of Alphabet Inc. in the United States.
All third-party providers are required to protect your information and use it only for the purposes above.
How long do we keep it?
Information provided through LegalHelpBC is retained for up to 3 years. Newsletter subscription information is held until you unsubscribe. Booking information is retained for up to 3 years.
